“Learn to wish that everything should come to pass exactly as it does,” – Epicetus

Even though Epicetus was a Stoic philosopher, this quote embodies much in Zen Buddhism and even in the Abrahamic religions. It’s about something bigger going on that we may not understand. The Stoics believed in fate, but they also believed humans are responsible for their own actions. Trying to control what is uncontrollable and neglecting what is within our power to control are both causes of suffering. These are things I try to keep in mind everyday. When I am aware of it, it makes life so much more enjoyable as I can be free just to “go with the flow.”
